Hey guys this is will be my final blog ever! don't be sad haha. Well I just wanted to say that the presentation today was very awkward for me because I was nervous and the words just wouldn't really come out of my mouth, so that was a FAIL! Also I just wanted to say that it's been fun writing these blogs I hope you've enjoyed it and also maybe one day again I might come back and start another blog! you never know!

Finally! Artefact = finished
YaY!! Finally the artefact is finished. After, let’s say 4-6 weeks, it is done. What’s also a good thing is that I’m back at class after the little 4 week gap to do our artefact. Since I have finished the artefact its best I show you some of the pages from it, unfortunately i'm not so sure how to put pictures up on here so i'll try on the next blog.
Although I might have just sounded a tad excited about coming back to class and finishing the artefact, when the class was settled we were informed that we would have to do a presentation. WHAT! Is all I said in my head. I thought I just finished everything I had to do now I have to do a presentation. A 5 minute presentation! Ahh oh well I’ll just get it over with next week I guess. Besides finishing the artefact and coming back to class, we also had to make a brochure about the presentation and the people’s name who would present on the day.
Well, I’ll see you guys next week and give you another exclusive on a presentation that might just go wrong! Hope you like some of the pictures I’ve posted from my artefact.

Just a little bit left
Hi guys, I think today’s blog might be a bit short, but the good news is that the artefact is nearly done. I've printed all the pages and all I really have to do is put them all together and go to a professional and bind it. Ahh!! I just remembered I have to draw a picture of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden. Crap! I’m not a very good picture creator; it'll probably look like a 5 year old drawing, which is not good maybe I should say that my sister drew it? haha nah ill figure something out. Do any of you guys want to draw me a picture? I'll pay you, no I’m kidding! Anyway by next week the artefact will be done hopefully I won't post it up next week though, only because the teachers may need to check the master piece before revealing it to the public (you guys).

There is nothing much to say today on the blog. I'm still playing around with the artefact I’m kind of having trouble with the colours I should use and the fonts. I keep changing the font type only because I’m kind of cautious that if I use cursive font that it might be hard to read and so on. And don't even get me started with colours it annoying. All I can say is the stage I’m at right now is at the 'confused' stage. So, I know I said it would be nearly done by this week but finger cross it should by next week!

Aretfact and Article
Okay so last week I posted the exegesis all though it’s not yet the finished product it was just like a draft I have a couple of weeks till the final is due, so I kind of got that out of the way for the artefact. So I have maybe just a little over 3 or 4 weeks to finish my artefact, even though it seems like long time it's not trust me this year has been anything but slow! Anyway this week I’m just going to do a brainstorm and layout of how I’m might be setting the artefacts and of course start looking for some resources, like pictures or text to be part of the artefact to show other perception of Milton's 'Paradise Lost'. So next week would probably be the week that the artefact would be close to finished.
Other than the artefact I recently read the article ' High-flying publisher in unexpected crash dive' from the Australian by Sally Jackson. This article explains the situation of two publishers, Jim Flynn and Nathan Berkley, who had run a successful publishing company 'Derwent Howard Media' that, has now fallen apart. The first reason that would come to mind would be that the market would be difficult, however it has been said that 'a closer look reveals a more tangled tale' (Jackson, 2009). Basically, after a couple of unresolved negotiations Flynn realised 'three to four weeks before I realised he had lost interest in the business' (Jackson. 2009) of Berkley. Financial reasons were also a cause of the loss of the publishing company and with Berkley gone it is now all on Flynn to finish and fix up the business.

Exegesis
As part of the Issues in Publication and Design study course for this semester, three artifacts were created in order to present an interpretation of Milton’s Paradise Lost book (4 lines pg. 208-313). This particular poem is of a modern take as Adam and Eve are presented in a relationship that have not yet committed sin, while living in the lavish nature God has created. The artifacts had to include three different multimodal components such as, print, vision and sound, as these key elements are able to appeal to different audiences. The first artifact includes the direct text of Paradise Lost (4 lines pg. 208-313) and a text interpretation from an anonymous student. The second and third artifacts are from my view and take on what the original text means. In this case, the second artefact is of a coloured drawing and the third artifact is a piano solo of the song ‘My Immortal’ by Scott D. Davis, where the original song is from Evanescence. This essay will explain the design choices made for the artifacts, as design is an important aspect to appeal to the audience/readers, as ‘Design is not, or should not be , mere decoration and abstraction, but part of the business of communication’ (Weildon 1990). Genre, language and context, meaning and issues involved in publication and designs will also be discussed.
During this semester I was able to present Parker’s theory on the do’s and don’t of design. Parker explained the different tools and techniques that should be adhere in order to present a readable documentation for readers and/or consumers (2003). The type of language that is used in the artifacts is English as it more familiar to readers/audiences. The use of language affiliates ‘a tool of communication between countries, cultural groups and communities’ (Kilgour 1999), which in this case allows the communication between reader and book to be readable. Kress states that language through text is considered to be ‘a full medium of representation and communication’ (Kress 1997). The genre of the piece of text can be acknowledged as a poem since it is a piece that conveys emotions and the experiences of Adam and Eve through the use of proper words and applies literary techniques such as metaphor.
The first of three artifacts is the multimodal component ‘print’. I have decided to use the direct text of Milton’s Paradise Lost (4 lines pg. 208-313) book and an interpretation of the original text from an anonymous source. The original text is a poem which imitates Gods creation of nature and, Adam and Eve, whereas, the interpretation is of alternative texts which present the poem in two forms of advertisement, real-estate and companionship. By using both texts the readers are able to compare how the original text can relate and see how the original text can be interpreted in different ways, as people ‘identify different discourses and understand what ideologies are presented their own way’ (Walsh 2006). With this communication between text and reader always involves decoding according to Walsh (2006), as this enables the reader and text to interact with one another in order for the readers to find their own sense of clarification of the text.
Each text will comprise of different fonts as ‘typefaces with extreme variations in stroke thickness are easier to read’ (Parker 2003). The font and size of the original text will be cursive and a bit more bigger to present how the text would have been written back in the 17th century also to create elegance within the writing, whereas, the other text will have include the same font but size will be larger to present a more modern view. Walsh explains that the format changes are able to create meanings (2006), in other words the slight changes in the size and font of the text will help create more than one meaning. With these types of formats and the type of design I considered which target audience will the text best suit and if they will find the interpretation of the original text laughable. With this I found that it was best suited for the ages of thirteen and above. As part of this group range I feel that most will interpret it in the traditional way or in a comedic way. Both texts will be presented on white pages, with the original text slightly burnt to make the page seem from the olden era.
For my second artefact I have chosen the multimodal element ‘vision’, where I have created a colourful drawing interpreting an image of what I feel Paradise Lost (4 lines pg. 208-313) means, since ‘Visualization is seen as an unproblematic kind of ‘translation’ from one semiotic mode into another – as a simplistic kind of translation from one language to another’ (Kress 1997). The drawing I have created would not only be beneficial to the intended readers, but the artefact would also appeal to children below the intended age group, since they may not understand the texts but they would be able to recognize the drawing as it is the story of how nature was made and of Adam and Eve. The artefact will benefit any demographic as I feel that I have considered ‘both individual differences among readers and the shared ways that people experience’ (Schriver 1997). The drawing is able to compliment artefact one as helps create an image of the original text, as the drawing includes the important aspects of the poem such as, the trees, garden including the beautiful flowers, a river and most importantly the male and female, Adam and Eve. Creating a drawing under the multimodal element ‘vision’ can create a broad audience providing a better outcome.
For the last artefact, I have chosen to use a piano solo from Scott D. Davis of ‘My Immortal’, originally from Evanescence. The purpose for this is while reading and looking at the drawing the music is intended to play in the background. This then can help create a mood. I feel the use of the piano solo will create and set a mood while reading and browsing through the drawing. Music is another form of communication, so by using the multimodal element of sound as part of an artefact this will enable me to increase or attract readers/audience. The use of sound will also help create a meaning, as for this case the chosen song ‘my immortal’ has a delicate melody which can help create a idea or image of Milton’s Paradise Lost book (4 lines pg. 208-313). When reading the text, looking at the drawing and listening to the sound a couple of times the memory of the text and drawing will be remembered when the sound appears anywhere the ultimate thought would be about the two texts and drawing. Kress believes that sound is able to be connected and combined with image and language (1997) which in this case, I believe the chosen sound completes the whole presentation.
The first two artefacts will be presented as a book, which will contain a front page, contents page, the two texts, the drawing and a back page. The front page is a plain brown coloured piece of paper which will have the title of Milton’s Paradise Lost book (4 lines pg. 208-313) in big fonts. The contents page will include the pages that each of the artefacts are in and the back page will be of the same colour as the front page but also include a little pocket for where the compact disc, in which the sound will be on, can and will be placed.
Overall, communicating through the multimodal components of print, sound and vision must be presented clearly to the reader without confusion. For artefact one the changes in the text need to be readable and ensure enough line and space per page to make this possible. For artefact two the coloured drawing needs to be presented powerfully and effectively in order for the readers to be able to understand. For artefact three the sound needs to complement the style of the presentation of the book and also the other two artefacts, the texts and drawing. All the elements of the presentation must be able to appeal to the intended readers and understand the target reader’s needs in order to make it successful.

Okey Dokey! Today I’ll be discussing a web page I found, which is about the top 10 mistakes web designers make that could potentially ruin their chances in gaining audiences. The web page 'Top 10 Web Design Mistakes ‘explains that to be able to make an 'effective and successful website' presentation is the key to it, as it grabs the attention of the reader/audience. But there are some web designers who create mistakes and here are the top 10:
1. Animation, gimmicks, and FlashThe main effect of using these features will 'drive traffic away from the site'.
2. In-your-face-advertisingPlacing full screen advertisements will annoy the target making them move onto another web page.
3. Navigation nightmares'If users cannot get where they want to go in two clicks' it will be a sure way to lose many viewers.

Exegesis and Jenni Jeremy
The life of a student, what can I say? It is very stressful. but hey I guess its part of the experience! I only say this because this week is another crazy week. Anyway today in class we touched on the exegesis. This is, for people who don't know what an exegesis is, well it’s a 1500 words type of essay explaining the artefact that you have created, which is like a book or canvases etc. expressing an interpretation of John Milton's 'Paradise Lost'. The class just clarified what the essential information needed for the exegesis.
We also had a guess speaker, Jenni Jeremy, who talked about living books, research and copyright. Jenni Jeremy explained that University Libraries are becoming more and more available and flexible in the way that books and researching are able to access academics and their information. She also explained the different types of Copyright.
I felt that today's class was very productive and enjoyed Jenni Jeremy's presentation, where she showed us the different types of books she likes.If you guys have anything to say you know what to do, don't be afraid! :D

Margaret was mentioned on the first blog, but I’ll just give you a quick summary about her "Towards a Taxonomy of Blogs'. It basically is a web page that explains of the blogs that you make can be put under a category, for example, individuals who blog about products and/or services would be placed under the 'advertisement' category. The day of the presentation!
Ahh! Just finished my presentation. I thought i did pretty well, I mean the two people in my group looked as if they understood whatI was talking about, so i'm guessing by that I did good.
My presentation was on Parker's work on the 'Designing Documents for Web Distribution and also on Jacci Bear's page on 'Elements of Design'. Parker's text explained the DO's and DONT's of using different colours, fonts, size, alignment as it would have an affect on the web distribution and also a printed document. Jacci Bear also touched on the use of colours and size, but also talked about mass, texture and lines. If you would like to look at Jacci's page feel free to, here is the link:

The other two people in my group also did their presentation. One was about the 'F' pattern, where the individual explained, with the help of another theorist 'Reep', that the 'F' pattern helps to identify where on the web page readers are most likely to concentrate on. The second presentation was on the same topic that I had done, but obviously presented from their point of view.
I thought that we all did well, especially it being the fiorst presentation of the semester. I'm no so sure to what grade i'm going to get, but fingers crossed HD! :D haha nah hopefully a P or a C. Anyway if any of you have dealt with powerpoint presentation feel me in with your situations

Prep for Presentation
Hi guys, hope you missed me!?haha...anyway i don;t about you, but this week was a crazy week, i mean assignments galore! Well one assignment that was part of crazy week was my getting ready for the powerpoint presentation. When it comes to presentations i'm one to not get so nervous because I like public speaking. I don't know you guys feel the same so go ahead nd tell me what you think!!
Anywho what I basically did lastweek and during this week was go through Parker's work on ' Designing Documents for Web Distribution' and also like a supplementary reading on Jacci Bears 'Elements of Design'. I noted the important information from each theory and put it up on a powerpoint slides and then double checked everything was in the right placed. Hopefully, fingers crossed, i get through the presentation even though i sound really confident, you never know what might happen so i'll be practising.
So see you next week where i'll give you an exclusive on how I went...all the best xo

Genre Exercise and First Assignment
Okay with today's blog it's all about how Genre exercise, learnt in class, represented each of the assignments for IPD. Now, when the teacher explained to the class to how this was to go about I looked at my friend and we both looked confused! Apparently we had to choose 1 out of the 3 genres, Graphic design, text making, online document and drama performance. By then i was still confused! It was not till we moved off to the groups (thankgod, love group work!!) that I finally understood what we had to do.
The group I was in was the Graphic design group. Here the group created 3 different designs that meshed presented the 3 different assignments. The first assignment which is a powerpoint presentation was presented as a flow chart. The second assignment which is the exegisis was presented as a bed made by paper as it shows a symbol of paradise, and the third assignment which is the artefacts was presented by a notice board that contained bus tickets, pictures and a shopping list.
During the second half of class we were informed about our first assignment, which is the powerpoint presentation on a theorist that the tute assigned us to. I got PARKER, so that was good because i actually had a quick read of his work and it was pretty simple. So during this week and next week i'll be reading, noting and stressing to get the presentation right!!

Heya people, i'm back at class and it's a wonderful feeling! haha not really :D Anyway i've jus finished reading Margaret Simmons article about 'Towardstaxonomy of blogs' where she explains that there are different types of blogs and bloggers that best fit a category. Simons identifies a total of 9 categories and one which I think I am under. The 9 are:
1. Pamphleteering blog
Blogs under this category are are usually blogs that 'argue or push a cause' (Simons, 2009) that are responses to issues.
2. The Digest blog
These are blogs that give you like a summary on information that have been in the media or in other blogs.
3. The Advocacy blog
These blogs center their attention to one particular issue, ussuallt nade by a group of people.
4. The Popular Mechanics Blog
Basically these blogs help and offer advice on special fields eg. gardening etc.
5. The Exhibition Blog
This type of blog is often run by artisits, craftspeople and writers who voice their 'how' and why' solutions.
6. The Gatewatcher Blog
These blogs are by experts and specialists who keep a watch on public events.
7. The Diary
These blogs are 'intended for friends and family' (Simons, 2009) that contain personal information.
8. The advertisement
Basically like the Advocacy blog, however less honest.
9. The News Blog
These are just another way of communicating the important news and issues to the audiences.
